The inclusion in the course of engineering in India calls for 10 +2 qualification. They should write the entrance examination at all levels including India, made in order to gain access to major institutions in India. There are seven Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs), namely, Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee, 20 National Institute of Technology (nits), a pair of IIIT, and several private institutions have the responsibility of maintenanceengineers.The institutions established in India to distinguish the niche between the world of higher education.

Development of IITs

* The basis for the IITs in India was laid in 1946 by the Executive Council of the Viceroy, Sir Jogendra Singh.

* The main objective was to develop a technical architecture to support the industrial development of the country.

* In May 1950 the first Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur was established.

* In 1961, fourmore such institutes in Mumbai, Kanpur, Delhi and Madras set up.

* IIT Guwahati was established in 1994.

* In 2001 the University of Roorkee IIT was granted the status. This was the seventh of the IITs in India campus.

IIT entrance test

(A) Phase I:
While the entrance exam for IIT JEE is always a matter of degree of bachelor may have to B. and B. Arch Des separate aptitude test, along withIIT-JEE.

(B) Post-Graduate Courses: For post-graduate courses in IITs, it must appear in a special entrance exam.

Present scenario of Indian engineering education

Over 2.3 lakh students a diploma in engineering in 2006, while only 20,000 master and doctoral degrees in 1000 were awarded this year, after studying engineering, "Education in India" conducted by two professorsIIT Bombay.

Doctoral degrees in engineering are less than one per cent of graduate engineering degrees. The proportion is much higher for many other countries like the United States (9 percent), Britain (10 percent) and Germany (8 percent).
